Plenty of West Ham United fans were hammering defender Aaron Cresswell following their side’s 2-2 draw against Newcastle United on Sunday.
The Hammers took the lead twice but failed to take the three points back to East London but still have a four-point advantage over the teams in the relegation zone.
Michail Antonio gave the visitors the lead after just four minutes before the Magpies’ Miguel Almiron quickly replied before the 20-minute mark. Tomas Soucek gave his side the lead but it took just over 80 seconds for Newcastle to reply with a goal from Jonjo Shelvey.
With some good individual performances on show at St James’ Park, the London Stadium faithful picked out a supposed poor one in Cresswell.
Should Aaron Cresswell be sold at the end of the season?
Yes
No
However, the narrative was much different when his statistics from the encounter were analysed. During the 90 minutes, he managed to win six out of his seven duels, was not dribbled past once and had a pass success rate of 76%, as per Sofascore.
But surprisingly, supporters were not impressed with Cresswell’s performance and made their feelings clear on social media. Several fans described him as “shocking”, “awful” and “clueless”, while another stated that he “needs to be replaced” next season.

Fredericks and Cresswell shouldn’t be anywhere near the Premier League, you need good solid full backs in the Prem, and they are just not! #panicstation #WestHam #WHUFC

Fornals’ error initially but Cresswell then got a call and continued backing off into the pen area allowing Krafth to pick out his man too easy. No attempt to block the cross coming in. It’s not good defending #whufc

Get Cresswell out

Cresswell would be a reliable backup but a new LB should be the #1 priority

Cresswell needs to be replaced next season. Good servant but doesn’t have the pace anymore:
