“Can’t help but feel” – Sam Inkersole dissects West Ham’s draw with Newcastle

|

West Ham United found themselves in front at St James’ Park twice but were forced to settle for a 2-2 draw against Newcastle United on Sunday.

The Hammers could not bring the three points back to the London Stadium despite what was a positive performance from David Moyes’ side.

Michail Antonio gave the visitors the lead after just four minutes into the game before Miguel Almiron replied before the 20-minute mark. In the second half, Tomas Soucek made it two goals from two games as he gave Moyes’ team the lead for the second time.

But it took just 84 seconds for Jonjo Shelvey to bring Newcastle back on level terms as West Ham had to share the spoils.

Evaluating the game at the final whistle, football.london’s Sam Inkersole believes that they missed a huge opportunity to give themselves more breathing space from the relegation zone.

Before Aston Villa took on Liverpool, West Ham went four points clear of the relegation zone. But deep down, they will know that it could have been six.

Inkersole is spot on. After having taken the lead twice, they will feel disappointed not to be winning that game, having created 15 chances and seven shots on target, per Fotmob.

After this result, will West Ham stay in the Premier League?

No

Let’s hope that West Ham don’t come to regret this result at the end of the season, as they must take advantage of every opportunity that arises from now until the end of the season.
