When West Ham United signed Jack Wilshere last summer, we all knew we were taking a massive gamble on him.
There is no denying that he is a quality midfielder when he is available and has to be regarded as a steal considering he was a free transfer, however, ‘available’ was always the operative word, wasn’t it?
The former Arsenal man only managed to make eight appearances for us in his debut season after he was ravaged by a number of injuries once again (Transfermarkt).
Arguably, we missed a player of his quality on the pitch at times and if he were able to play more often, then we would have likely finished higher than where we did in the Premier League.
Well, let’s not dwell on ‘what could have been’ and let’s look ahead to the upcoming campaign as there is always the possibility that Wilshere will be able to end his injury nightmares and get a full season under his belt.
And, according to Twitter user ExWHUemployee, the 27-year-old is regarded as a very important player moving forward.
After hearing the news regarding his status within the team, a number of West Ham fans took to Twitter to share their reactions, with a large number of them being hugely positive.
A lot of the fans felt Wilshere was one of the club’s best midfielders when fit whilst others were hopeful that he would be able to play more regularly for us after being impressed with what they saw in the few appearances he made for us last season. Here are some of those reactions…
I pray that he stays fit – a permanent midfield of Rice, Wilshere and Fornals would be insane

It looks like he is working hard with the staff to be fit and, hopefully, reliable for the coming season. Pellegrini likes him and he is a very good player. I’m not quite sure why so many ‘fans’ are against him. I hope he plays a huge part next season.

When fit, by far the best midfielder we have. I suggest wrapping him in bubble wrap when not playinh

He is a first team starter if and when fit.

He is. A fantastic player when fit. Hopefully he can stay for next season ????

Anyone saying he’s not important has an agenda against him. At the moment he’s still our best midfielder to link possession into attack

Good to hear. The glimpses I have caught of him this season show that he still has it. Maybe expand on it a little bit in your pod cast. A fit Wilshere would be like a top new signing.
