West Ham man overtakes two time Serie A champion to earn international milestone

|

Łukasz Fabiański earned his 50th cap for Poland over the latest set of international fixtures, having displaced Wojciech Szczęsny between the sticks.

The West Ham man had been left on the bench for Poland’s last five games but was given the nod ahead of the Juventus stopper for the Euro 2020 qualifier against North Macedonia.

He kept a clean sheet in that game, as a goal from Krysztof Piątek secured a 1-0 win, in which Fabiański made three saves and one high claim.

That was enough to keep him in the side for the Israel game, which is the one that saw him earn his 50th Poland cap.

The Polish were a lot more comfortable during this game, winning 4-0 with goals from Piątek, Robert Lewandowski, Kamil Grosicki and Damian Kądzior.

Fabiański made a contribution of his own though, pulling off four saves and one high claim during the game.

His time on the pitch can be seen as a worthy reward for his performances at West Ham this campaign, having made 148 Premier League saves, the most of any goalkeeper in the league by seven – a tally which also saw him win the Hammer of the Year award.

That Szczesny was Juventus’ most prominent goalkeeper this season, playing 28 Serie A matches and an additional 10 in the Champions League, but was still displaced by Fabiański is a sign of just how good the West Ham man has been.
