Lucas Pérez has left West Ham United for an undisclosed fee, joining Deportivo Alavés.
It has only been a year since the Spaniard joined the Hammers, but after being given just four league starts, he and the club have decided to part ways.
His overall record in a claret and blue shirt isn’t atrocious though, as he got six goals from 20 games in all competitions, with 13 of those appearances coming from the bench.
However, he never really showed the consistency to earn himself a place in the starting line up and failed to impress a lot of the club’s supporters.
His lofty wages will have been a factor behind the 30-year-old leaving, as the club raise funds for Manuel Pellegrini’s planned squad overhaul.
It is also for that reason so many West Ham supporters are glad to see him leave, as a lot of them feel their club will be able to reinvest the wages freed up by his departure and that of Andy Carroll to recruit better forwards – as the striker position is a key area of improvement for the Hammers this summer.
A selection of Twitter reaction to Pérez’s departure, including posts from delighted West Ham fans, can be seen below:
The wage bill is well and truly cleared. Let’s get some decent players in.

Good on his day but like a lot of our strikers this season to inconsistent. Let’s bring Arnie some real competition in and get him fired up.

Never really looked like he settled and bonded with the rest of the lads which counts more than scoring the odd goal. All the best to him.

If Pellegrini feels this was a needed departure then I trust him and his team. pic.twitter.com/gh8VNwvWZX

No point in keeping the deadwood which eats up the wage budget. Good move to get rid.

Let’s hope he plays better at Alavés
