‘Over paying players every time’ – Some West Ham fan’s react to ‘very likely’ €28m deal

Some West Ham supporters have been reacting on social media to speculation that Gustavo Cuellar will join the Hammers following the climax of the Copa America.

It emerged during May that the Irons were interested in signing the Colombian midfielder, when it was suggested on Brazilian radio that we were trying to negotiate a deal below his €70million (£62.2m) release clause.

It was even claimed by one of their reporters that we would be multiplying his existing salary six-fold, and offer the 26-year-old a deal worth €2million-a-year – the equivalent of £34,217.85-a-week, which would place him toward the bottom-end of our wage bill.

The fee for the deal, meanwhile, was thought to be at the €28million (£24.8m) mark, which would be spread over three instalments.

That same reporter, Gustavo Henrique, has not backed down from his stance either, despite being the only Brazilian outlet to report the story, according to Sport Witness.

The global football news aggregator now cite a video Henrique shared to his YouTube channel on Monday, where he insisted once more that Cuellar would be leaving Flamengo this summer, and that the Rubro-Negro fanbase should forget about their defensive midfielder as he is bound for East London.

Henrique also posted the same sentiment on his personal Twitter account on Sunday, but without any further details to the expected transfer fee or what will be included in his Irons contract.

Cuellar, for his part, is currently with the Colombia squad for the Copa America, who kick off their tournament against Argentina on June 15, before facing Qatar and Fabian Balbuena’s Paraguay.

When Forever Boleyn shared a take on Cuellar’s ‘very likely’ transfer to West Ham, here’s how these supporters reacted…
