‘Clubs will be laughing’: Many West Ham fans are unimpressed by latest contract update

|

West Ham have struggled so far this season in the Premier League, losing seven of their opening 13 matches and tasting victory on just three occasions.

One bright spark in the side continues to be the fine performances of academy graduate Declan Rice, who forced his way into the first-team frame last season and has since become one of the first names on the teamsheet.

The 19-year-old is currently in the midst of an international tug of war between the Republic of Ireland and England, having represented the former in friendlies previously, and that fight for his services could be replicated at club level.

West Ham have failed to get the teenager to agree to a new contract with Rice entering the final 18 months of his current deal and there is growing concern amongst the supporters that he could be lured away – and the latest update is not positive as it suggests the Hammers will shelve further discussions until the summer.

Many fans have reacted angrily to that report as they believe it will allow rival clubs to make a move and we have gathered some of their comments below.
