With the new season of Premier League football fast-approaching, it feels that the squad is well-equipped to overcome the obstacles that are associated with a new campaign. That said, we can expect a few departures, such as Edimilson Fernandes.
According to the Italian outlet Di Marzio, Sampdoria have expressed an interest in signing Edimilson Fernandes to replace the departed Lucas Torreira who joined Arsenal earlier in the window. It’s reported that Fernandes is one of several defensive midfielders that the Italian club have identified to replace Torreira.
The 22-year-old only attained 16 first-team appearances for us last season, and this summer could represent the most appropriate time to cash-in on the Swiss midfielder – especially following the arrival of Jack Wilshere.
Here’s how West Ham supporters have reacted to the rumours on Twitter.

He is far too inconsistent – I’d happily cash in on him

First think Pellegrini & Edi need to do is find his best position. Feel he has paid the price for his verstitily & willingness to play hindering his development. He has quality need to fine a way to unlock it

For instance, we've had Bilic who in his first season did make a lot of signings. On paper some we're good deals such as Tore, we was all buzzing but it simply didn't work.
From every player we signed that window only Edimilson Fernandes and Masuaku have a future at the club.

Verdict:
There’s no doubting that Fernandes is a talented player, but if he doesn’t feature in Pellegrini’s plans, and there’s a potential suitor in-waiting, then it’s logical for the club to sell him.
