Penalty shootouts are often one of the most exciting yet tense aspects of football, and in the rare occurrence that goalkeepers have to step up to take the winning kick, the tension is ramped up to 11.

And this was the case for West Ham in the FA Cup against tomorrow’s opponents, Everton, when Adrian stepped up for the Hammers in the 2014/15 third-round replay with the penalty score at 8-8 with the Toffee’s keeper on the night, Joel, missing his kick from the spot, meaning the former Irons keeper had a chance to send the east London through in the cup.
And do so he did as the now-Liverpool keeper sent Joel the wrong way following an intense run-up that saw Adrian throw down his gloves, and supporters on social media reminisced about the extraordinary finish ahead of tomorrow’s clash with Everton in the Premier League at Goodison Park.
Here’s what some West Ham fans had to say about Adrian’s winning penalty against Everton…
Pleased he is getting game time at @LFC, proper cult hero at West Ham after this.

Adrian has found himself as Liverpool’s first-choice goalkeeper for much of this season following an injury to Alisson in the opening game of the Premier League campaign against Norwich City.
