‘People said Pellegrini and Husillos made good transfer moves’ – Many West Ham fans react to report

|

Mario Husillos and Manuel Pellegrini’s partnership in the transfer market has been doing the rounds on the R/Hammers Reddit page recently, after one user shared a report that highlighted a key aspect of the business.

The report stemmed on a table, which broke down how much each Premier League side have spent on player fees based on the ten most regular members of their respective starting elevens. It then compared where they currently sit in the league table to where they rank for money spent, with the Irons coming home with a minus-two difference.

Our ten most regular starters’ combined transfer fees came to £108million, which is the ninth most in the English top-tier, but we currently find ourselves in 11th place after 34 games, and four points behind Everton and Wolves.

The ninth and tenth placed outfits, for comparison, have spent £181million and £106m on their respective most-used ten players.

Surprisingly, the worst culprit for spending without success is not Fulham, who are five places down in the Premier League table to where their starting XI ranks for money spent, as it is Southampton.

The St Mary’s natives have the eighth-most expensive most-used ten players in the top-flight, yet are in 16th place, and just five points from safety.

Fans on Reddit, though, took particular note of the comparison that can be made between Wolves and us…
