Hammers Match Zone

Pellegrini Feared Hammers Could Be Giant-Killing Victims

|

Last night, in the Carabao Cup second round tie against AFC Wimbledon, it looked for over an hour that the Hammers would slip to their fourth consecutive defeat of the new season.

After three consecutive losses in the Premier League, an early goal by the League Two saw West Ham faced with the possibility of being the victims of a giant-killing act, despite the Hammers having a huge majority of the possession.

Thankfully, any red-faces were spared with three late goals, from Diop, Ogbanna and Hernandez, easing those fears.

However, after the game and as quoted by the BBC our Chilean boss, Manuel Pellegrini, admitted he had a few nervous moments, remarking:

“I was worried because you play against these teams that defend really well and then you are losing 1-0 in the first minutes, after working the whole week not to suffer those kinds of goals.

“The best thing the team did tonight was that we kept calm – we continued moving and creating space.

“It’s important to win. If we lose this game, that’s another consequence – it’s very important. We need to continue working and I hope on Saturday we can have our first victory in the Premier League.”

And so do we Manuel, the support needs a huge boost after the disappointment of those first three games.
