Opinion: West Ham’s recent activity could cause much more harm than good

West Ham fans have had to wait an age to see their team play, however, when the Hammers return to action they’ll be set to travel first to The Etihad and then to Anfield, possibly the two toughest stadiums to go away to in the world at the moment.

There will be little to no expectations that the Hammers will get anything from either game, and there would be very little surprise if David Moyes’ side came away from these two fixtures with a massively impacted goal difference, and the recent break between matches may not have helped.

The last time that West Ham played was when they surrendered a 3-1 lead to draw 3-3 at home to Brighton on February 1st, and now the Irons face Manchester City on Wednesday, 18 days later, and that wait may well do the Hammers more harm than good.

As much as Moyes will have been desperate to get some work in with his squad on the training ground, having just under three weeks without a game could result in a fair bit of rust to shake off tomorrow evening, although it shouldn’t make a difference when facing Manchester City.

Bedding in both Jarrod Bowen and Tomas Soucek won’t have been made easy with them both kicking around waiting for games as both of the club’s new signings will be keen to get minutes under their belts, endear themselves to the supporters and maybe get their first goals for the club.

The Irons do have a chance to get themselves back above the dotted line and survive this season, but it will take a lot of work, but they’ll need to get themselves some momentum built up and put a run together, something that will not be possible with 18 days gaps between games.
