Opinion: West Ham could benefit greatly from rumoured sale

|

We all know that West Ham United have been far from successful in the transfer market down the years, with many millions wasted on flops and wages thrown away on players that warrant nowhere near what they’re paid, yet with that being said having an extra £90 million to play with always helps.

That sort of money would likely go a very long way for the Hammers, assuming it gets reinvested into the team, and whilst losing Declan Rice isn’t what the fans want to see, taking the massive rumoured fee for him would give David Moyes plenty of cash to splash on improving his side.

We’re only talking about this seeing as the rumours doing the rounds at the moment have claimed that whether West Ham are a Premier League or a Championship side next season their star midfielder will be available for transfer, but only if his £90 valuation is met (Claret & Hugh).

Rice has become a huge part of this West Ham side, but when the opportunity of a £90m investment is there, on top of the fact that the likes of Andriy Yarmolenko, Carlos Sanchez, Pablo Zabaleta and Winston Reid will be on their way, freeing up £310,000 per/week from the wage bill (Spotrac), it cannot be ignored.

The Irons, should they still be a Premier League team come the summer, could make some serious acquisitions over the summer with a £90m+ budget, as plugging the gaps in the defence as well as fixing the goalscoring problems will be high up on the Irons’ to-do list.

Should Declan Rice be sold?

Take the money!

No we need him

The next few months will dictate how things go for West Ham. If January signing Tomas Soucek proves to be a success then it could allow for Rice to be sold, and if the returning Felipe Anderson and new-man Jarrod Bowen can get Sebastien Haller firing then taking the cash for Rice could be the way forward, although only time will tell how the situation at West Ham plays out.
