‘Onwards and upwards’: Lots of West Ham fans had ‘respect’ for former target who joined PL rivals

Andre Gomes looks set to join Everton on a permanent transfer and it would seem West Ham United fans would not be disappointed to miss out on him on Twitter after learning about his reasons for staying at the Toffees.

According to a report by Sky Sports, our Premier League rivals are thought to have agreed to a £22million deal with Barcelona for his signature.

We had battled it out for the Portugal international over the summer and had a bid rejected last month by the La Liga side, however, we have since acquired Pablo Fornals instead.

Taking to Twitter, one fan asked reliable insider ExWHUemployee for an update on the Gomes situation and asked if there was any truth in the report, which he then revealed the reason as to why we did not have a chance.

The reliable source of information stated that Everton had helped the midfielder with some personal problems, which led to him feeling a sense of loyalty to the Goodison Park outfit and appeared to want to show his gratitude by joining them on a permanent transfer.

And, many of the West Ham fans were not too disappointed to miss out on him after learning the reasons as to why, with many admitting that they had completely respected that decision.

One stated that he ‘could respect that’ whilst others just admitted it was ‘fair play’ from him and wished him the best.

Here are some of those reactions…
