‘His work rate is incredible’ – Some West Ham fans name their alternative candidates for Hammer of the Year

|

The official Hammer of the Year will be announced on Wednesday night, but some Irons supporters decided to share their appreciation for other worthy contenders on social media.

The run-away contenders for the official prize are summer signing Lukasz Fabianski and midfield anchor Declan Rice, whose efforts in East London this season returned the academy graduate with his first international call-up for the Three Lions.

Rice also scored his first senior professional goal when he struck the back of Arsenal’s net in our 1-0 win over the Gunners in January, before doubling his tally against Newcastle a month later.

Fabianski’s form at the London Stadium has also been magnificent since leaving Swansea for just £7million, when he became our second new recruit in as many days following the then club-record purchase of Issa Diop.

With the Hammers, Fabianski has never missed a Premier League game and has kept seven clean sheets from his 37 outings between our sticks. That number could also have been a great deal lower had it not been for the numerous top-draw saves the 48-cap Poland international has pulled off.

Some supporters, though, wished to shed light on the efforts of other first-team regulars, and some more recent additions.

One name that stood out for many fans was Mr West Ham Mark Noble, whose 15th senior campaign has so far returned 31 appearances, three goals and five assists.

Another Manuel Pellegrini regular adored by some supporters has been Robert Snodgrass, who has aided the boss’ maiden campaign at the London Stadium through his ability to play on the wing and in the centre – Snodgrass has four goals, nine assists to his name across all competitions this term.

The efforts of more than just the standout contenders for this year’s Hammer of the Year award resulted in these replies when the club’s official Twitter account asked who should win it ahead of the official announcement…
