Hammers Set To Buck The Trend, We Hope

|

This Friday evening the Hammers support will be hoping the side can extend their mini-unbeaten run that has seen them climb up the table and give the supporters hope that this can be a memorable season, as opposed to peering over our shoulders at the relegation dog fight just below us.

But, with the game against Brighton being televised live by Sky Sports, what do the statistics tell us to expect from the fixture?

Well, to be brutally honest, previous results don’t augur well for a Hammers victory.

Last season, the Hammers were crushed 3-0 in each of the Premier League games against Brighton with, strangely enough, one of those victories coming on a Friday evening, let’s hope that is not an omen.

Continuing on a doom-laden theme, it also appears that the Hammers have lost on each of their last three visits to the Sussex seaside, in fact, the only victory in the last seven away fixtures came when both sides were in the Championship, some seven months ago.

Delving deeper into the history books, we find that the first-ever game between these two sides came 115 years ago, in this very month, guess what, Brighton triumphed 3-2, in a Southern League Division One fixture.

But, statistics are there to be broken and if the Hammers can secure a win today, it will be the first time the side has claimed back-to-back Premier League victories since January 2017, now that is a long time.

For the record, I reckon the Hammers will emerge the victors tonight with Manuel Pellegrini’s side winning by the odd goal in three, with Marko Arnautovic getting the winner.

Let’s see if I’m right!
