Many West Ham United fans heaped praise on our owners David Gold and David Sullivan after reports suggested that they would not be one of the Premier League clubs to furlough their staff.
A story from football.london in March suggested that the Hammers would continue to pay their staff through the coronavirus pandemic.
This comes after all Premier League football was postponed until further notice as medical experts believe that the illness is yet to peak in the UK.
Although an official statement has yet to be released from the club as of Sunday, West Ham News revealed on Twitter, backed up by a report in The Guardian that we will not be one of those clubs that will rely on taxpayer’s money to ensure that staff are paid during these unprecedented times.
Do you agree with our stance on the furlough scheme?
Yes
No
In circumstances we haven’t seen for many years, given how unpopular they have been amongst the fanbase, supporters actually praised the leading shareholders for their decision making on this key issue. One fan was relieved that “our football club hasn’t embarrassed us” for once.
Fair play to Gold and Sullivan on this.

Genuinely good news. I’d have expected us to be first with the begging bowl.

Honestly this is the best thing Gold and Sullivan have done since buying the club 👏. This is the first time in a long time that I am proud of our club 👏
