“Football is dead”, “Baffling” – Lots of West Ham fans blast “disgraceful” call

|

Plenty of West Ham United fans were angry with a hugely controversial call that was made during their 3-2 victory against Chelsea on Wednesday night.

The Hammers secured a crucial three points as their relegation battle continued. Tomas Soucek, Michail Antonio and a late winner from Andriy Yarmolenko cancelled out Willian’s brace to take the bragging rights in the London derby.

However, there was a moment during the first-half which left the London Stadium faithful stunned.

Soucek fired home past the Blues’ shot-stopper Kepa Arrizabalanga but Michail Antonio went down in front of the ball before the Czech midfielder struck it into the net.

Should Tomas Soucek's goal have stood?

But the goal was chalked off by VAR official Jon Moss after referee Martin Atkinson initially gave the goal. It was deemed that the Englishman was offside and interfering with play, somehow.

Unsurprisingly, supporters were incensed with the decision and made their feelings clear on social media. One fan said that “football is dead”, while others described it as “baffling” and “disgraceful”.
