A lot of West Ham United fans love Phil Parkes’ comments on Roberto.
The former Hammers star has not held back in his assessment of the 33-year-old goalkeeper describing him as an “Outfield player who has somehow found his way between the sticks.”
Parkes also believes that the Spaniard has a “Clause in his contract that ensures he does not have to dive for the ball.”
Roberto has received, deserved, criticism since he came into the team to replace Lukasz Fabianski, and this latest round of scathing analysis has delighted a lot of Hammers fans but could damage Roberto’s fragile confidence.
There is no doubt he has been an awful signing, but until Fab is back in January, what can we do?
David Martin was the third choice at Millwall, so I doubt he is much better than Roberto, and on Saturday, the Spaniard did stop Burnley scoring more than three with a few excellent saves.
Who do you want to start the next match?
Roberto
Martin
Yes, he was at fault for the third goal with some shocking goalkeeping, but he then denied Sean Dyche’s men from adding a fourth or even a fifth as our defence collapsed.
Either way, though, these Hammers fans love Parkes’ comments.
See the best of the reaction below.
Phil Parkes: “I haven’t seen a lot of Roberto but don’t think I need to because it’s pretty obvious he’s not very good. I remarked to a mate when I watched him in the Oxford United game that he may have a clause in his contract which ensures he doesn’t have to dive for the ball.” pic.twitter.com/ijwOBj68zs

Savage from Parksey !!! ????????????????????????

???????????? you have got to ask the question who the hell scouted him in all fairness. He’s possibly even worse then McKnight, who had numerous shockers. I never understand why the club wouldn’t tap into Parkes knowledge & ask him if there’s a keeper in his early 20s worth a punt.

Other Irons supporters adore Parkes’ quotes.
Come back! At your age you’re better than him.

Finally, some Hammers fans want Parkes to come out of retirement.
