The Premier League-leading Liverpool held West Ham United to a one-all draw on Monday night, but the performance by Javier Hernandez caught the eye of the home crowd.
Rather than focusing on Sadio Mane’s controversial opener or Divock Origi’s late chance to secure all three points with an offside effort, Hernandez’s performance in Claret and Blue impressed a fair few of the London Stadium faithful.
It was the former Mexico international’s eighth start in the league under Manuel Pellegrini to bring his season total games to 14 from a possible 25, and while he did not add to his tally of four goals, the 30-year-old proved a regular threat for the likes of Virgil van Dijk and Joel Matip.
All in, Hernandez had a hand in four efforts on goal – the joint most of any player – and that was despite seeing the ball the least of anyone who started, with his movement off the ball earning glowing praise.
Here’s a roundup of some of the best tweets shared following the Monday night affair…
Javier Hernandez last night reminded me of the Javier Hernandez of Mexico fighting for every ball and chasing everything down.
That’s what we need every week from him.— Baz Cox ⚒ (@Baz1980WHU) February 5, 2019
Probably went unnoticed by a lot of fans, but worked their centre backs hard to create space for West Ham. Certainly deserves the praise for that performance. A great team performance.

I’d like him to stay if he can prove himself! He looked hungry last night

What a performance, the 2 full backs made a huge difference. Best game I’ve ever seen Ogbonna have, Anderson & Antonio brilliant plus Snodgrass & Rice was unreal. Hernandez done well & Noble didn’t stop running. Arguably the better side & should of won & had the better chances.

Spot on. Rice is indispensable, he’s just magnificent providing protection to CBs & reads the attacking side of our game brilliantly. Snods made it a great midfield 3. Hernandez ran with purpose upfront. Most important, we were a team. https://t.co/F8d23szrdm

THIS WAS SO FUN TO WATCH. And I love watching Hernandez play, he cares so much. I worry that he looks tired but good God Carroll was a damn joke. So proud of the Hammers! Let’s all promise to quit talking about He Who Must Not Be Named, and praise Jesus no one got hurt!

Hernandez made a nuisance of himself the whole game.
