Following an exhilarating transfer window, we have been forced to endure the repercussions of a difficult start to the season. Three successive defeats have left us languishing at the bottom of the Premier League table, but Felipe Anderson’s start to life as a West Ham player has been a pleasing sign, one that should encourage supporters.
Beating both Arsenal and Liverpool away from is an excruciating task, an unobtainable one too, but our disappointing collapse at the London Stadium against Eddie Howe’s Bournemouth has left us at the bottom of the division. And, I suspect that Felipe Anderson will be at the forefront of that revival.
His mega-money move from Lazio – a club record deal – aroused great interest from West Ham supporters, and despite our difficult start to the new season, the 25-year-old has enjoyed a promising start to his Premier League career. In three games, he has totalled one assist, and his performance away at Arsenal last weekend was especially pleasing. He is valued at £31.5M by transfermarkt.
Indeed, his performance was sensational. He displayed a willingness to take opponents on, and he was responsible for creating several purposeful chances, including Arnautovic’s goal. The Brazilian’s creative output is clear, and with greater ruthlessness in front of goal last weekend, it’s likely that Anderson would have registered more assists.
Despite being 25-years-old, the Brazilian is vastly experienced, and he has the potential to become a truly significant player for us this season. Such was his influence in last weekend’s defeat; I’m confident that the former Lazio winger can be the individual to provide the team with inspiration if things aren’t going in our favour. We have another difficult run of fixtures awaiting us in September; it’s crucial that we utilise Anderson if we’re to attain much-needed victories.
