West Ham Linked With Another Centre Back And It’s Not Alfie Mawson

|

Yesterday, speculation appeared suggesting that the Hammers were looking to add another centre-back to the squad.

In reporting the ongoing situation, Click Here, we revealed that the player being speculated about was the Swansea City centre-back, Alfie Mawson.

But, today another scenario is developing.

Lurking in the pages of the Express and courtesy of the Turkish media, is the inference that the Hammers may have switched their attentions back to another target.

After, according to our source, having had a bid of £22 million rejected for the Croatian centre-back, Domagoj Vida, it is being inferred that the Hammers are set to make an improved offer for the 29-year-old.

However, if that is the case then the offer will have to, at least, match the £26.7 million that Monaco have offered his current club, Besiktas, for his services.

At the recent World Cup, as Croatia progressed through the tournament, Vida looked to be a rugged, no nonsense type of player, the kind who could prosper in the Premier League.

If a renewed bid for the player is successful, Vida could well be our eighth recruit of the summer and would allow Manuel Pellegrini to field a centre-back partnership of Diop and Vida that will have cost the Hammers in excess of £50 million, now who’d have thought that back in our troubled times last season.

But, here at Vital West Ham, we’re interested in your views on the possible signing.

Would the acquisition of Domagoj Vida be something you’d welcome?
