Report: West Ham launch offer for 23-year-old targeted by multiple European sides

|

As reported by Infobae, West Ham have launched an informal offer for River Plate and Argentinian defender Gonzalo Montiel.

We’re in a very strange period of time at the moment, for obvious reasons.

Where there should be football week in, week out, there isn’t right now and when it returns there will be jubilant scenes.

However, in the meantime, it seems as though we’re going to have to occupy ourselves with other means and it looks as though there is going to be plenty of transfer rumours to help us do that – however it remains to be seen how many prove to have much substance.

This report, then, reckons that the Hammers have launched another move for Montiel, with the club making informal contact with his agent Marcelo Carracedo after failing to strike a deal in the winter market, when the east London side offered a six-month loan with a €10m (£9.1m) option to buy.

Should we sign him?

Yes

No

What informal means in this particular instance remains to be seen, but you’d imagine, if true, the Hammers are evidently keen on taking another look at Montiel and are trying to see whether the 23-year-old has similar levels of interest in a move.

That said, the club would still need to sort both personal terms and terms with Argentine giants River Plate in order to get a deal done, with it noted that Montiel is a key piece of manager Marcelo Gallardo’s plans and that the defender has a €20m (£18.2m) release clause. So, clearly, there are plenty of steps left to take here.

The report, though, suggests that the Hammers have looked to initiate something as David Moyes uses the break in play to good effect working with the club to narrow his summer shopping list.

Moyes and the Irons hierarchy could face competition from multiple European sides to sign Montiel, though, as the report adds that Valencia, Real Betis and Roma are also interested in the four-time Argentina international.
