Maxi Gómez is still West Ham’s top target for the transfer window, which has been reiterated by ExWHUEmployee at different points throughout the summer so far.
While he is certain that West Ham are after the Uruguayan, even he isn’t sure exactly when a deal could be made…
Not really no gonna drag I think https://t.co/aC3FIEholL

It can be frustrating when a deal keeps dragging along, but the signals point towards that being the case for the Hammers if they are to eventually sign Gómez.
The striker, who scored 13 La Liga goals last season, assisting five times, is currently at Copa América with Uruguay, which will be a contributing factor in how long the deal is taking to be completed.
The final isn’t until Sunday 7th July, so it is highly unlikely a deal will be struck before then if Uruguay go deep into the competition.
Nevertheless, there are West Ham fans who remain positive about the club’s chances of completing the deal.
Many of those optimistic supporters within the fan base are citing last summer’s long drawn-out pursuit of Felipe Anderson as a reason to keep faith in the deal.
Mario Husillos has been praised for working quickly in this transfer window, though if he manages to get Maxi Gómez, he will have played the ultimate long ball game.
A selection of Twitter reaction to the Gómez situation, including tweets from optimistic West Ham fans, can be seen below:
Is no one else acutely aware that he’s still in the middle of Copa America with Uruguay and it was unlikely anything would ever be done until after anyway???!! So many people are so impatient and not thinking this through.

It’s uncanny how similar this transfer is to Anderson’s last summer.

Anderson was signed mid July, I imagine this will be a similar situation. Just gotta be patient

Same with Anderson. We will get him

That’s what happens when you go for top quality players & you are in the 3rd tier of The Premier League; gotta try but it’s always going to be difficult.

Not forgetting he is out in Brazil with the Uruguayan sqaud, he could be getting many voices in his ear about the PL, London and other agents from other clubs.
Could go either way.
