Transfer News: West Ham send scouts to watch £18m rated man in hope of plugging problem area

|

West Ham United may have just come out of the transfer window along with the test of Europe, but it seems that the Hammers are already trying to get ahead and look at players for when they enter the summer market in a few months time, with scouts being sent out to watch one target in France.

One of the key areas that David Moyes will have one eye on bolstering this summer is at right-back. Pablo Zabaleta will be leaving at the end of the season as his contract expires and whilst Ryan Fredericks is a reputable option for the role, he can’t be the only option for the club there.

That’s where these reports come in that the Irons are taking a look at LOSC Lille’s young Turkish defender Zeki Celik. The 22-year-old looks to have loads of potential, and with a Transfermarkt valuation of £18m, it’s easy to see why Moyes and co are keen.

Is Ryan Fredericks good enough?

Yes

No

The links between West Ham and Celik have come from Turkish-Football.com, and they claim that the London side have sent out scouts to watch the Ligue 1 defender, although any move is dependent on the Hammers remaining in the Premier League.

The report states:

‘West Ham United have set their sights on a summer move for Lille right-back Zeki Celik.’

‘West Ham scouts have been monitoring the Turkey international over recent weeks.’

’35-year-old Pablo Zabaleta is currently West Ham’s first-choice right-back and the Hammers are understood to be looking for a long-term replacement.’

‘Any move, however, is dependent on West Ham remaining in the Premier League.’

‘David Moyes’ side currently sit in 18th spot with just 24 points after 25 games. The Hammers take on last season’s champions Manchester City tomorrow.’

‘Celik has also recently been linked with a move to Tottenham while Lille rejected an £8 million bid from Cardiff last season.’
