Summer signing’s excellent start is evidence he can transform West Ham

Kurt Zouma can transform West Ham United’s defence this season, after getting off to an excellent start in claret and blue.

Since making his Hammers debut against Dinamo Zagreb on Thursday, new summer signing Kurt Zouma has impressed the club’s supporters and has shown glimpses of what he can bring to the squad this season.

The 26-year-old, who signed from Chelsea for £29.8million, has now put in two good performances and earned a starting spot over Craig Dawson for Sunday’s game against Manchester United.

Zouma’s physical presence and defensive awareness gives the team a lot more quality at the back, as well as adding squad depth to help cover the club’s demanding season.

What was most noticeable during the French internationals first two games, was that he can add leadership and organisation to the defence as well. Alongside the reliable Angelo Ogbonna, Zouma could become a terrific player for West Ham.

During the game on Sunday he made a total of 12 clearances as well as one tackle, two interceptions and had 93% passing accuracy. The Champions League winner has good experience playing in big games also, which shows with his low count of lost possessions.

It seems like West Ham have acquired a great player this summer, and only time will tell how good he will be going forward. The Hammers’ Europa League campaign will demand better quality football and now David Moyes has included a very solid addition to the team.

If these performances continue, then Zouma could transform the West Ham defence. Last season we thrived on good defensive performances, which can only mean that the club’s latest signing will hopefully improve the squad as a whole.
