Opinion: Hammers should accept no less than £100m for midfield star

|

West Ham midfielder Declan Rice should not be sold by the club for anything less than £100million, amid previous reports suggesting that could be his price tag.

According to the Daily Mail, via Football London, the Hammers estimate the 22-year-old’s worth to be around £100million after several clubs have now expressed interest in acquiring Rice’s services.

Top Premier League clubs like Chelsea, Manchester United and Manchester City are set to battle it out next summer, but West Ham should be reluctant to sell their star man.

The England international is an integral member of the current Hammers squad, and to lose him would be catastrophic to the team and to fans. Rice is an excellent leader as well as a player and is someone who has experienced a vast amount already at such a young age.

This highlights how important it is that, should the club sell Rice, they don’t accept a low offer. Although it may seem like a large fee, that is what he would be worth in today’s current market – with some arguing that he is actually worth more.

West Ham coach and former player Kevin Nolan expressed last week that he wouldn’t even sell him for that amount, only more.

The footballing world has seen previous English stars go for large fees recently, just like Declan Rice would. The likes of Jack Grealish and Harry Maguire are just some examples, where the former signed for Manchester City for £100million and the latter signed to Manchester United for £80million.

After consistently performing well for a good few seasons now, Rice is lighting up other team’s radars and soon there will be a time where West Ham supporters will have to say goodbye.

However, it is imperative that the Hammers get a good deal from this and, despite what some doubters might believe, not accept any offer lower than his price tag already. £100million is a fair amount to part with for the Premier League star.
