‘Shouldn’t be sold’ – Lots of West Ham fans unsure of Moyes cashing-in on ‘genuine quality’ ace

Lots of West Ham United fans are unsure of David Moyes cashing-in on Andriy Yarmolenko following reports the Ukraine winger could be sold this summer.

Yarmolenko has suffered an injury-ravished time at the London Stadium since joining West Ham from Borussia Dortmund for £17.5million in 2018, and reports by the Mirror claim the 30-year-old’s time could be up with Moyes needing to raise funds for his own transfers.

The winger, alongside Felipe Anderson and Albian Ajeti, are expected to be forced out of East London in the current window so that Moyes can put his own stamp on the squad with younger options, such as Brentford forward Said Benrahma.

Yarmolenko started just one of his eight appearances since Moyes returned to the Irons for a second spell in charge, having been in the physio’s room until the season resumed nursing a tear in the abductor muscle sustained shortly before Manuel Pellegrini was sacked in December.

The 86-cap international provided two goals during his outings under Moyes in the Premier League, being the winning effort against Chelsea and the heavily-deflected strike against Aston Villa on the final day of the season.

The forward also found the back of the net against Norwich City, Manchester United and AFC Bournemouth earlier in the campaign following his return from a season-ending Achilles tendon rupture, while providing the one assist.

In fact, only Michail Antonio (10) and Sebastien Haller (seven) found the back of the net more often than Yarmolenko, who registered the Irons’ third-best shots per 90 minutes record with 2.4 among Hammers players who played more than two Premier League games this season, per WhoScored.

Lots of West Ham fans can see enough from Yarmolenko’s brief appearances to see why he would be worth keeping at the London Stadium for at least another season…

While a lot of West Ham fans can see the quality Yarmolenko offers, even just from the bench, there are some who would consider parting ways this summer if it meant bringing in the young attacking talent that Moyes is after…

There are certainly a large number of West Ham supporters who would cash-in on Yarmolenko this summer regardless of the replacements Moyes may have lined up, but many question how much they can demand for a 30-year-old who is the club’s highest earner on a £115,000-per-week contract…
