Many West Ham supporters have been reacting on social media after club insider ExWHUemployee claimed a move for Barcelona midfielder Andre Gomes remains unlikely at this stage.
Director of Football Mario Husillos was said to have made an £18million bid for the former Portugal international regular, but Sky Sports have since reported the offer was knocked back by his parent La Liga side.
Barcelona are thought to be holding out for a fee in the region of £25million to £35million, after he put together a solid campaign while on loan with Everton but still finds himself surplus to requirements at the Camp Nou.
While plying his trade at Goodison Park under Marco Silva, Gomes made 27 appearances in the Premier League, in which he scored once and assisted once.
Despite being rejected with our initial advance, Sky Sports do add that we are still intent on making a deal happen for the 25-year-old, and will do our utmost to add the Vila Nova de Gaia-born ace to Manuel Pellegrini’s ranks this summer.
You can look at the odds and go for the best West Ham free bets here.
ExWHUemployee has now backed up these claims, too, after noting on Monday that 6 ft 1 Gomes has moved ahead of the likes of Maxi Gomez and Aleksandar Mitrovic to become our top priority, and we could bid closer to £30million.
To help bridge the gap in offers, it is noted the board will sanction the sale of Spanish-born midfielder Pedro Obiang, but at this point, a deal for Gomes remains unlikely.
The club insider suggesting a deal for Gomes remains unlikely generated these replies from West Ham fans…
Ah that puts a downer on everything now

I’m far too cynical I wonder why …. this smacks of season ticket renewals not going too well …

I have to admit, whenever I see this kind of rumour from anyone on here or in the papers I always have to stop and ask myself how the ST renewals are going.

It’s highly unlikely the board will fund a move for anyone so every transfer is unlikely ????

Who would Rather Jack Grealish rather than Gomes
— Disco Stu (@stukfar) May 27, 2019
That’s because we are offering no where near what he is worth, if we truly want him offer the 30m and don’t muck about, don’t understand the owners at times, I know everyone wants cheaper, but you won’t do that with quality players, makes no sense

Unlikely because that’s our entire budget gone on one player.

Why bid 18m, knowing that it will be rejected because Barca want 25-35m? Screams of typical Gold and Sully, constantly bidding under the asking price, getting surprised when they’re rejected, giving up and say that you’ve tried your hardest, and then panic-signing Shelvey for 20m
