Report: West Ham to go head-to-head with Newcastle for €50m French star

West Ham United look set to go head-to-head with Newcastle United for the Ligue 1 midfielder Morgan Sanson this summer, according to reports.

The 25-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to the London Stadium for some time now, with former boss Manuel Pellegrini monitoring him on his radar last summer.

Despite telling RMC Sport that he was focusing on his football in France, L’Equipe suggested that his club were looking to dispose of him as they struggled to meet with Financial Fair Play requirements.

Now according to Le 10 Sport, the Hammers, along with the Magpies, have shown an interest in the player but his club will demand a fee of around €50m (£43.7m) for his services.

The report adds that Marseille may be forced to compromise if Sanson tries to force a move, having recently switched his agents in an attempt to secure a move away.

Would you bring Morgan Sanson to the London Stadium?

Yes

No

At the age of 25, he would fit in nicely in East London and at the London Stadium. Not only because of his age and potential sell-on value, but also due to his obvious talent that would greatly improve our squad. With the season now over in Ligue 1, he will have plenty of time to consider his future going forward.

Sanson managed to score five goals and provided five assists in 30 appearances in all competitions this season, which is a solid record in a side that finished second in the standings.

Saying that, €50m is far too much for the Frenchman. It means that we would have to break our transfer record for his services, having spent £45m on Sebastien Haller last summer, which hasn’t turned out well.

West Ham will have to think carefully about their next move. Although it would not be out of the question to bring Sanson in during a future window. But it could also be a matter of time, depending on how many other sides, other than Newcastle, want to take him from Marseille’s hands.
