Report: West Ham plotting move for Arsenal defender that could prove to be a game-changer

|

It’s an awfully big risk to be taking.

But whether it be a case of desperation, or just blind faith that he might be able to come good, I think it’s something that the club might want to consider.

According to a report from The Telegraph, West Ham are looking at bringing in Arsenal defender Calum Chambers on a season-long loan deal in order to bolster a defence that could do with a bit of work having conceded four goals in our opening two games.

Having never quite made the grade at The Emirates, judging by his inconsistent runs of game time interspersed with a few loans, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t have something about him.

Indeed, his performances for Fulham when they were in the Premier League last kind of showed what he is capable of pulling off when given a consistent run in the team, one of the few players to come out of that season with any credit as he won their Player of the Season.

Would you take Callum Chambers on loan?

Yes

No

So for a lower half of the table team like us, to get someone in like that without spending a big transfer fee would be a pretty big coup and should put us in good stead going forward, and it might allow us to improve without having to sell one of the big value players.

The one thing I would say about this though, as I’ve pointed out with previous players linked to us, he does have a bit of a problem with injuries, so it’s something to consider.

And whilst it’s not a huge gamble to take considering we won’t have to pay that big fee, he still might not be in for a couple of games, and the points he earns on the pitch are arguably just as important to what we’d be losing out on financially.

What about you? Would you take Chambers at West Ham?
