Opinion: Last two weeks of the transfer window could come down to quality v quantity for Hammers

We don’t have a lot of money to spend (although that much should be pretty obvious by now), so it’s best we use it wisely.

Just how we are going to go about doing that though is another matter, do we go all out and spend it on that one main ‘big name’ target, or do we spread it out amongst a number of players. At least that’s the feeling I get judging by David Moyes’ latest comments.

Speaking after the defeat to Arsenal at the weekend, Moyes laid out just what our plans are for next fortnight, saying that he wants to bring in as many players as he can, but financial restraints mean that it isn’t possible:

“I don’t want just centre halves. I want other positions as well. I think it’s a priority, with a limited budget I have to try and pick a way through which I can use it. Ultimately I’d like to sign three or four players, I want a better squad and team but I totally understand we are not in a financial situation to do so and what I do get I will try and use as well as I can.”

Will West Ham sign any players before the Oct 5 deadline?

Yes

No

It sounds cliché, but it really is going to be a case of quantity v quality for West Ham United in the last few weeks of the window.

In my mind, I would rather us go for one quality player to really take us forward, and then go cheap for the rest of the positions that we need.

Whilst I’m not expecting us to take as big a step forward as when Liverpool signed Virgil Van Dijk for instance, I think that one player, be it someone like James Tarkowski can really be the one move to solidify, and then we add the cheaper pieces around him, such as Calum Chambers from Arsenal on loan for instance.

Make that big signing, and let the rest fall into place.

What about you? Would you go for quality over quantity with the money we have at our disposal?
