Opinion: Whether West Ham fans like it or not we need to see more of bit-part ace

|

So far this season West Ham fans have seen an awful lot of two of their three senior summer signings in the form of Pablo Fornals and Sebastien Haller. However, one man who we just haven’t seen anywhere near enough of is the Hammers second choice striker Albian Ajeti.

The Swiss striker was brought into the club from FC Basel for a fee of £8m over the summer (BBC), coming in late in the window as Manuel Pellegrini and Mario Husillos chased a deal for a second forward after bringing in just Haller at that point.

Now, though, despite bringing the young forward in, Haller has failed to perform and as the fans are starting to look at alternatives to the Frenchman, Ajeti is hardly getting a look in, presumably because he’s still adapting and is struggling for match fitness.

That’s exactly why we need to see an awful lot more of him. Against Wolves, on Wednesday night the youngster got ten minutes of Premier League action under his belt as he came on to replace Haller for the final part of their 2-0 loss, although he didn’t do an awful lot.

Last season we saw what the Irons new striker can do as he bagged himself a mightily impressive 21 goals and 11 assists in all competitions (Transfermarkt), and if the Hammers want to see their striker find that kind of form then he has to get more minutes.

Should Haller and Ajeti start together?

Absolutely, two up front!

Absolutely not, it wouldn't work!

The longest spell of action Ajeti has managed for West Ham in the Premier League this season was a 45-minute outing against Newcastle, and that simply isn’t enough. The 22-year-old has some serious potential, and whilst the fans may not want to see more of him, he needs to play to improve and Manuel Pellegrini will know that.
