Opinion: What West Ham fans will want to see against Liverpool

|

Tonight, with West Ham United travelling to take on Liverpool at Anfield, just a matter if days after they travelled to take on Manchester City at The Etihad, expectations are low. However, the Hammers can be given a real morale boost if David Moyes sets the team up the right way.

When the Scottish tactician lined up his side to face Manchester City the approach was abysmal and the result was the least surprising one we’ve seen this season, however, scrapping the 5-4-1 that was used last time out and actually having some options going forward could serve the Irons well.

The one thing that the West Ham supporters will want to see is a little bit of fight, and even if the Reds are going to play this pitiful Stratford side off the park, at least travelling to Merseyside with the intent to gave a go would give the fans some comfort.

With that being said, this is the way that we want to see Moyes set up come kick-off at Anfield:

In goal, there are no surprises to hear that Lukasz Fabianski has to play, the Polish shot-stopper is sublime and could be key to any slither of a chance that the Irons may nick something here.

At the back, the injured Ryan Fredericks will be a real miss with his pace down the right flank, and we’re keeping that in mind by suggesting that the young Jeremy Ngakia is who we want to start, with a centre-back pairing of Angelo Ogbonna and Issa Diop on the middle and the set-pieces man and versatile defender Aaron Cresswell at left-back.

Into midfield, and the two-man pivot that should be called upon here is the duo of academy star and fan favourite Declan Rice partnered by new signing Tomas Soucek, allowing three more attacking options to roam further ahead.

That trio of midfield talent, in or opinion, should be the creative Spaniard Pablo Fornals, who was left out completely by Moyes at The Etihad, with the pacier wide-men Felipe Anderson and Jarrod Bowen, both of who are no strangers to getting on the scoresheet, either side of the former Villarreal man.

Then, playing upfront as a lone striker, although with attacking midfield options buzzing around him, should be Sebastien Haller after he was dropped to the bench on Wednesday last week against City.

(Fabianski; Ngakia, Diop, Ogbonna, Cresswell; Rice, Souceck; Bowen, Fornals, Anderson; Haller)

That then leaves the likes of Robert Snodgrass, Manuel Lanzini, Michail Antonio, Mark Noble and Arthur Masuaku all on the bench who can be called upon to provide a bit of creativity, grit or pace depending on what the Irons may need at Anfield.

Where will our next win come from?

Liverpool

Southampton

Arsenal/Wolves/Tottenham/Chelsea

Newcastle/Burnley/Norwich

This team isn’t guaranteed to get a result at Anfield, but it has the attacking capabilities to get at Jurgen Klopp’s side, and even if it doesn’t get a result here, it would have a good chance in future games against more ‘beatable’ opponents.
