Opinion: With nothing to lose, West Ham need to go hell for leather on Monday evening

|

West Ham’s most recent clash in the Premier League came on Wednesday evening, the Hammers travelled to The Etihad and were only beaten by a 2-0 scoreline, although the Irons offered very little going forward and seemed resigned to losing whilst trying to keep the scoreline down as much as possible.

However, that is not what teams that survive do. We’re not expecting to see the Irons go into these games and expect to win, but at least showing some intent going forward is certainly a start, and when David Moyes’ side travel to Liverpool on Monday evening there really is nothing to lose.

A loss is expected worldwide, seeing as Liverpool are yet to lose a game at Anfield this season, so the Hammers have got no expectations from this one and can afford to go for it on Merseyside, certainly more so than they did against Manchester City in the week.

The way that the Hammers went into that City game was ridiculous, the attacking quartet of Sebastien Haller, Manuel Lanzini, Felipe Anderson and Jarrod Bowen were all benched, with only Bowen getting any minites, whilst Pablo Fornals was left out entirely, and at Anfield that cannot be repeated.

Using a mix of Anderson, Haller, Fornals, Bowen and Michail Antonio would provide the Hammers with the pace and creativity to get at the Reds, and even if they come away from the clash having lost heavily, at least showing the fans the intent to get forward and fight would be a message.

Going at Liverpool and maybe grabbing a goal or two, even if any goals scored are in vain, would be a massive confidence boost for the Hammers, and with Southampton at home the following weekend, the added confidence boost and proof that this side can attack could be a catalyst for better things, so Moyes needs to go for it at Anfield.
