Opinion: West Ham would be making a smart move by bringing in 33yo Premier League hitman

|

Before we get into this and start explaining the reasons why a move for Olivier Giroud to West Ham this January would be a good one, in our opinions, we just have to stress that we don’t think this should be something done regularly, and the only reason we want to Giroud is to get out of the current mess.

Making loan deals for 33-year-old Arsenal and Chelsea write-offs are not what the Hammers need to make a regular thing, but at the moment, West Ham face a rough few months between now and the end of the season, and staying up has to be a priority.

That’s where Giroud comes in. The World Cup winner has barely played for Chelsea this season, and as he wants to leave the club, the Irons need to bring someone in who can score goals, get Sebastien Haller into the game more and give the club a leg up to attacking areas.

The news that Giroud could be set to come in as the latest West Ham signing has come from Football Insider, and whilst it looks like a risky move on the face of things, it couldn’t be further from that, as the Frenchman knows the Premier League, knows where the goal is, and could be set to help the Haller really find his feet and ensure that Moyes and co are still a Premier League side in August.

In his career to date, Giroud has bagged himself a mightily impressive 78 goals in his 225 Premier League appearances (Transfermarkt), and if he can grab another half a dozen whilst helping Haller to do the same and get some shock wins in the top flight then the Hammers would certainly have made a good call.

Can Yarmolenko be effective for us as a striker?

Yes

No

If the Hammers can get Giroud in on just a six-month loan until the end of the season, stay up and then not sign him permanently it would prove to be a brilliant move. But any deal that includes a permanent transfer simply isn’t what the Hammers need and should be avoided.
