Opinion: West Ham could reap the rewards from signing relegated Premier league ace

|

There really wasn’t loads to enjoy last season from Cardiff City last season. Most of the headlines around the Bluebirds came from Neil Warnock, be it scathing assessments of referees or ranting about this, that or the other.

However, on the field, one of the Welsh club’s few bright sparks was the Spanish loanee midfielder Victor Camarasa. The 25-year-old has returned to Real Betis after his Premier League loan, but he certainly did enough to prove that he has what it takes to play in a mid-table top-flight side.

The Spaniard likely won’t be set for masses of game-time in La Liga this season should he stay at Real Betis, and that’s purely down to the fact that the club recently signed World Cup winner Nabil Fekir. That’s where West Ham will come in, though.

The Hammers, led by the magnificent manager Manuel Pellegrini, have been linked with a move for the Betis man by Estadio Deportivo, and what a signing he would be. After bagging five goals and four assists last season, including a goal in a 2-0 win over the Irons, the only surprise is he hasn’t been looked at sooner.

His Premier League impact has been far greater than that in La Liga. In his short spell in the English top-flight, Camarasa chipped in nine goals and assists in 32 games, whilst in Spain, his tallies stand at eight goals and five assists in 116 games, Transfermarkt.

That may say a lot about how the midfield man’s game is played, and with Cardiff benefitting from having him in the middle of the park, driving from deeper positions and showing a creative touch in the final 3rd, West Ham could be set to really benefit from this signing.

We’ve seen West Ham sell Pedro Obiang, and with a slight gap in midfield, the Spaniard could be the perfect man to come in and provide extra rotation and depth, although they may end up trying to haggle for a price lower than Camarasa’s 25m euro release clause.
