Opinion: Late Deadline Day drama could prove vital for West Ham

|

West Ham fans have enjoyed their summer business so far, but it looks like they could be set for a new player or two still to come in, according to ExWHUemployee on Twitter. The Irons will be keen for a couple more too, especially after their recent defensive showings.

Then, when asked if the Hammers could end up embroiled in some Deadline Day drama, Ex also had a similar reply, claiming that one of their targets could drag into the final day.

There is nothing quite as exciting in football as a last-minute transfer deal going through and going down to the wire. Whilst the Irons won’t need the stress of seeing a transfer that could go either way at the last minute, they will be keen for some reinforcements at the back.

The Irons may have got their heavy spending done this window, but after shipping three goals in a 5-3 win over Hertha Berlin on Wednesday, the fans will be keen to bring in someone to help them out at the back a bit considering their frailties.

It won’t be easy for Manuel Pellegrini to bring in any top talents this late in the window for a decent price, especially considering they may be struggling for funds having shelled out £69m on Sebastien Haller (£45m) and Pablo Fornals (£24m), but even some added depth would be welcomed.

If the defensive situation at West ham can be improved with a new centre-half with a bit of experience on a free or a loan then it could make all the difference, and with that kind of deal potentially going to deadline day it could be something that completes the Hammers’ window.

The attacking force that they have is going to be a spectacle next season with Felipe Anderson, Haller, Fornals and Manuel Lanzini, but if they want to compete at the top end of the table, signing a new defender could be the finishing touch to a strong window.
