Opinion: Weekend defeat to Southampton will surely be last straw for this West Ham man

|

There really are no prizes for guessing who the West Ham man in question is in the headline for this article. The Hammers are struggling to a degree that the fans thought they never would this season and whilst the squad at The London Stadium is incredibly talented, things haven’t clicked yet.

Fortunately, whilst West Ham fans have just witnessed their side lose to Arsenal, who have been one of the worst teams in the Premier League over the few weeks, their next game is a supposedly easier game against Southampton at St. Mary’s stadium on the south coast.

It will not be at all an easy game when the Irons travel to face Southampton, as the Saints have got players like Danny Ings and James Ward-Prowse who are in fine form at the moment, even if Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side aren’t playing the greatest football in the world at the moment.

Back to Pellegrini, though, and the Chilean is struggling beyond belief. It’s a miracle that he still has his head above water in his current managerial role, especially seeing as the likes of Arsenal, Tottenham, Everton and Watford have all dispensed with struggling gaffers already this season.

West Ham have won just one game in their last eleven outings, and that is the form of relegation fodder. With that being said, though, a few more losses and the Hammers could drop from 16th into the bottom three, as they’re only one point clear of the dropzone as things stand.

Can Pellegrini save his job by changing his system?

Yes

No

The game against Southampton will likely be the final straw for Pellegrini. Should he lose that game then the fans will be in a state of complete and utter disarray, although they’re not far from that as things are now. Whatever happens from here, Pellegrini is in real trouble, and one more loss could, and likely will, see him sacked.
