Opinion: Picking out the West Ham star most likely to benefit from a change of management

|

The current West ham squad is full of players who are underperforming. The Irons are struggling in the Premier League and sit 16th in the table, just one point clear of the relegation zone. Dropping into the Championship still has to be a real concern, but the quality of this side should be too good to go down.

West Ham United have got some incredible players in their side. Lukasz Fabianski, who is currently injured, is a sublime goalkeeper whilst the likes of Issa Diop, Declan Rice, Mark Noble and Felipe Anderson have all proven their worth in the defence and midfield for the Irons.

However, should Manuel Pellegrini bit the bullet and find himself sacked as the West Ham manager then the player we’re expecting to see enjoy the most dramatic upturn in form is the club’s new French import Sebastien Haller, their £45m striker (BBC).

Having signed from Eintracht Frankfurt over the summer, the 25-year-old started in a strong way. After the opening day 5-0 defeat to Man City and then missing the second game of the season against Brighton, Haller went on a run of scoring four goals in six games, but since then he’s failed to bag in his previous eight Premier League outings (Transfermarkt).

However, as much as Haller has been below par, he isn’t the man most responsible for his lack of goals. One of the key issues is that the Frenchman has struggled massively as he’s been isolated, and Pellegrini has refused to change things up, playing with one upfront and leaving the big man to fend for himself.

Should a new manager come in the first thing that needs to be understood is that Haller needs help when he’s playing as a forward and whether the solution is to start with midfielders higher up the pitch or start a second striker, something has to be done.

Yes

No

Pellegrini is still in charge, though, and until he’s sacked then we don’t expect to see a massive change in the way that Haller has been performing. As long as the Chilean gaffer does make way, though, then we expect that the best of Haller will be seen eventually.
