Opinion: Summer needs to see West Ham cut ties with ex-Man United man

|

The current crop of West Ham players will do well to avoid relegation this season. However, if they do avoid the drop and get to the summer with their Premier League status intact then they simply have to cut ties with David Moyes and start building for a much brighter future.

The Hammers have got a long way to go to get to the point where they want to be, battling for a spot in the top half of the Premier League and fighting for a spot in European football, and to do that they need to get rid of the current manager, as Moyes is hardly going to have this side climbing the table.

There are no guarantees that Moyes will even be able to save the Irons this season, but assuming he does then the fans will be absolutely desperate to get rid of him and bring in a manager who can start instilling a style of play and bring in the players to execute it.

There will be those at the club who simply have to leave, but it’s all about who they bring in, including a manager with a European pedigree. Before Manuel Pellegrini was sacked Claret & Hugh reported that Niko Kovac was in attendance for West Ham’s clash with Arsenal, and if the Croatian is still unemployed in the summer then he’d make an obvious fit in Stratford.

Kovac was worked with Sebastien Haller at Eintracht Frankfurt and if he could come in and get the Frenchman firing then he’d be an obvious success, but whoever does come into the hot seat at the London Stadium needs to have a clear plan of how they want to play to take the Hammers to the next level.

Should we keep Moyes beyond the summer?

Yes

No

Throwing bags of money at Manuel Pellegrini in return for inconsistent football wasn’t the option, and bringing in Moyes to firefight will only get you so far, so it’s about time that David Gold and David Sullivan took a serious look at what this club needs instead of just worrying about lining their own pockets.
