News: West Ham senior figure set to quit as board-fan tensions continue to rise

|

At West Ham United at the moment, the job of trying to improve the brand image looks like an impossible one. The way that David Gold, David Sullivan and Karren Brady have run the Hammers is criminal in the eyes of the fans, and the supporters are now doing everything to try and dislodge the trio.

That relationship between GSB and the fanbase seems to have made the job one Simon Kutner an impossible one. Kutner is the Irons’ communications chief, yet nothing he can do will be able to fix the relationship between the fans and the club under the current ownership.

With that being the case Football Insider have reported that he’s set to quit his post at the Stratford club despite the fact that he’s been in the role for less than 18 months. His job has been an impossible one, though, especially seeing as around 7000 fans were protesting the ownership of the club before the weekend’s 3-2 win over Southampton.

Will GSB sell up?

Yes

No

It seems that the relationship between club and fans is unrepairable until there is a change of ownership. A number of blunders in the boardroom, from recruitment to rehoming the Hammers, has caused this rift, and fixing it is beyond the powers of a communications chief.

The Football Insider article states:

‘West Ham communications chief Simon Kutner is expected to leave the club this week.’

‘In a growing sign of the off-pitch troubles at the Premier League club, the man hired to oversee the club’s brand is heading out after less than 18 months in the post.’

‘Kutner is in line to depart within days, and at a time when the club’s relegation battle is being played out to a backdrop of increasingly toxic relations between the board and supporters.’

‘Around 7,000 supporters protested against the increasingly unpopular trio of owners David Sullivan and David Gold, and vice-chairman Karren Brady, ahead of Saturday’s 3-1 Premier League win against Southampton.’

‘That brought David Moyes’ side such much-needed breathing space in their bid for Premier League survival.’

‘But a vast section of the club’s fanbase have pinned the blame on Sullivan, Gold and Brady for what they feel are broken promises and how the move to the London Stadium from the hallowed Upton Park has badly backfired.’

‘Kutner joined West Ham in October 2018 from Standard Chartered Bank with the remit of handling corporate communications including corporate social responsibility and community communications.’
