News: Moyes plans to call upon his experience when handling exciting West Ham ace

|

Having signed for a fee of £20m from Hull City over the January transfer window, West Ham fans have got high hopes for Jarrod Bowen. The 23-year-old looked a real talent in the Championship, but now he has to make the grade and step up to Premier League football, and David Moyes has to manage him correctly.

The Scottish tactician was asked about Bowen in his press conference yesterday ahead of today’s meeting with Southampton, and his answer wasn’t entirely clear as he talked about his newest signing ahead of what will be a crucial clash with Saints and the first of 11 remaining league games.

Whatever Moyes says, the fans are just keen to see their latest star make his full debut after back-to-back substitute appearances against Manchester City and Liverpool, and given his goalscoring pedigree in the second tier of English football, you’d imagine Moyes would want to get him on the pitch as soon as possible.

Bowen was praised by Moyes when the gaffer was asked about the 23-year-old, but he also said it would be ‘unfair’ to bring in the player from Hull and expect him to be their saviour, something which many of the fans would have been banking on.

You can read Moyes’ full quotes on Bowen here:

‘I’ve got to use my experience. Players like Leighton Baines and Phil Jagielka took six months to settle into the Premier League, but others like Tim Cahill made an impact straight away.

‘I’ll assess Jarrod and see where he is at. I want him to be for the long term. If we are signing a player from Hull and hoping him to be a saviour, I think that’s unfair, but he’s looking very good and very sharp.
