Opinion: Manuel Pellegrini is right to be targeting reinforcements for West Ham problem position

|

West Ham supporters will all have a good idea of what they need when the January window opens up, and Manuel Pellegrini also has a very good idea, seeing as it’s been reported that whilst there may not be any names in mind, Pellegrini has certainly picked out his problem position to reinforce.

For a lot of the Hammers, bringing in a more able goalkeeper seems to be what needs doing, others will pick out another defender, however, Pellegrini is going down a different path. The Chilean certainly knows what he’s doing, and it appears he wants another striker.

That’s not all that hard to understand either, seeing as the options that Pellegrini has upfront are fairly bare. The reports come from Claret and Hugh, and it’s explained why the club will be looking to bring a new goalscorer in January too.

The current options that the Irons have at their disposal are limited. We all know how good Sebastien Haller is, as was expected from the £45m man after he signed this summer, yet Albian Ajeti, another summer signing, is yet to show his quality, and with Michail Antonio still injured, a new striker looks like a necessity.

At the moment, if Haller goes down injured in the next game that the Irons play, Ajeti will be called upon from the bench and it could be a difficult few weeks if the club’s French goalscorer is ruled out for any length of time, seeing as there is a long way to go until January and not a lot of guaranteed goalscorers in the side.

With that in mind, limping through to January and hoping that Haller can be kept fit is just the risk they have to take, whilst they can then look to make some signings in January and give Pellegrini what he wants as he continues to do a brilliant job at The London Stadium.
