Report: West Ham reportedly pull the plug on transfer for £35m Premier League defender

|

Well, looks like we can bring an end to this one can’t we?

It was probably only a matter of time before the news became somewhat official, but now it looks like we’ve come to the end of the road on this particular transfer.

According to a report from Football Insider, West Ham United are giving up on their pursuit of Burnley defender James Tarkowski, with the Hammers seemingly having reached their upper limit when it comes to how much they are willing to pay for the 27-year-old, with Burnley still set on their valuation of £35m for him.

I said earlier today that based on David Moyes’ recent comments regarding the last few weeks of the transfer window, that it was going to come down to a matter of ‘quality v quantity’ for how West Ham deal with the rest of the window, and that Tarkowski would represent the ‘quality’ part of it.

How much will West Ham spend this summer?

More than £50m

Less than £50m

But with him seemingly off the list, it will be interesting to see whether or not the club sticks on that path and try to bring in one big time signing, or if they will go for the ‘quantity’ approach and use whatever money they have left to try and bring in a number of players to fill multiple roles.

I personally think we should stay down the path of one quality defender to help stop the leaky defence personally, and then try to find cheap, potentially loan players to fill out the rest of the squad.

What about you? What do you make of this news regarding Tarkowski?
