‘Not exactly next level’ – Some West Ham fans discuss move for ace who ‘can make things happen’

|

The season is far from over, but some fans have already cast an eye towards next term and have been discussing a move for a midfielder who ‘can make things happen.’

That midfielder is Huddersfield’s Aaron Mooy, who may now find he is on shopping lists around the Premier League following the Terriers’ relegation.

Jan Siewart’s side had their fate sealed at the weekend, and Fulham joining the John Smith’s Stadium natives in moving back down to the Championship made April 2 the earliest date two sides have been relegated from the Premier League in the competition’s history.

That could be good news for us, if the supporters keen to see Mooy in Claret and Blue get their wish, as the 28-year-old has been impressive since his top-flight emergence in 2017.

In his debut campaign in the Premier League, the Australia international recorded an average of three successful tackles per ninety minutes, 1.1 interceptions, and 1.5 key passes.

Despite their struggles this year, Mooy has kept his records going, as well, with the 39-cap ace recording 2.5 tackles per ninety minutes, 1.8 shots (a rise of 1.0), 1.4 dribbles (a rise of 0.7), and 1.7 key passes.

For comparison, only Declan Rice has recorded more successful tackles out of our midfielders, while only Robert Snodgrass edges Mooy for key passes and dribbles from a central position with 3.3 and 1.9 per 90 respectively – excluding Jack Wilshere, Carlos Sanchez and Manuel Lanzini due to limited appearances.

If we were to make a move for Mooy, we could look to play into Huddersfield’s relegation to look for a deal close to his £12.6million TransferMarkt valuation, and we could easily match or better his reported £50,000-a-week wage.

Not every Irons supporter is keen for Mario Husillos to make such a move, though, with fans on Twitter visibly split over a pursuit…
