‘Not a big enough impact’ – Some West Ham fans rate £46.8m-rated trio’s season under Pellegrini

|

Some West Ham supporters have been rating the efforts of Marko Arnautovic, Javier Hernandez and Lucas Perez now that our first season under Manuel Pellegrini has drawn to a close.

The £46.8million-rated trio were the Chilean’s most frequent designated strikers, with versatile winger Michail Antonio also handed the leading spot in four starting XIs.

Pellegrini similarly turned to the perennially crocked Andy Carroll on three occasions following his brief return from injury, but the 30-year-old saw out the final months of his contract on the sidelines and without a Premier League goal to his name this term.

Arnautovic, meanwhile, endured a frustrating campaign, as the £31.5million-rated Austrian kicked the season off strongly with three goals in our opening five league games, and would end the term as our top ‘scorer in the Premier League. But, when rumours of a move to China hit Stratford and multiple injuries subsequently followed, the 30-year-old fell off the tracks and failed to find the back of the net in eleven straight top-flight appearances.

Hernandez, on the other hand, was Arnautovic’s number two when Pellegrini took charge, but benefited from more regular minutes when the former Stoke City winger could not deliver.

Our £10.8million-rated Mexican, though, struggled to deliver goals either, and only managed to score three times and assist once during Arnautovic’s drought.

As for Perez, he was an underwhelming signing when he arrived from the Emirates Stadium, and kept that theme running throughout the campaign.

The £4.5million-rated former Arsenal man at best dipped his toe into the action in three consecutive Premier League games – something he managed twice – and was excluded from the matchday squad altogether on 14 occasions.

Whenever the 30-year-old scored in the league, though, they proved to be important strikes, as his brace against Cardiff ensured we beat the Bluebirds and his effort against Leicester moved us back into the lead.

Perez should also have had a second against the Foxes after rounding Kasper Schmeichel, only to see his goal ruled out by a questionable offside call.

All things considered, here’s how some of the London Stadium faithful rated their seasons…
