“Must do everything they can” – Roshane Thomas feels West Ham must keep London Stadium favourite

West Ham United will be a Premier League side next season, much to the relief of everybody.

The Hammers’ 1-1 draw against Manchester United on Wednesday confirmed that they avoided relegation with a game to spare.

Michail Antonio scored from the penalty spot following a handball from the Red Devils’ midfielder Paul Pogba, but it was quickly cancelled out by Mason Greenwood shortly after which meant that David Moyes’ side had to settle for a point.

Following the action at Old Trafford, The Athletic journalist Roshane Thomas gave his view on the fact that the Scot needs to shift his focus on keeping Declan Rice at the football club.

Will Rice be at West Ham next season?

Yes

No

“Now that West Ham United have secured their Premier League safety, the club must do everything they can to keep hold of Declan Rice.

Lampard, Cole and Johnson all previously made the switch to Chelsea. But West Ham can build for the future with Rice.”

The England international has contributed hugely to the Hammers during the 2019/20 campaign. Former West Ham midfielder Joe Cole described him as possessing “an old head on young shoulders”

Thomas could not be more correct about the club’s situation. Rice has been the player that has knitted the back and the front together, and that simply cannot happen without him.

Due to his age and his technical ability, West Ham are lucky to have him and need to do all that it takes to keep hold of him for the foreseeable future.
