As a number of clubs tend to do on Twitter, West Ham United posted an ‘on this day’ tweet regarding Cheikhou Kouyate’s signing, which saw a number of fans share their reactions.
The defensive midfielder, who was sold to Crystal Palace last summer (BBC), arrived in east London back in 2014 and went on to make 129 appearances in the Premier League, scoring 12 goals in the process.
Although the Hammers managed to conduct some serious business in the transfer window last summer, with the likes of Jack Wilshere arriving in his position and Declan Rice continuing to emerge as a superstar for us, many at the time still felt that the then-28-year-old’s departure was a little confusing and something that could come back to haunt them – fan site West Ham Till I Die wrote an article suggesting just as much.
The Senegal international was believed to have been a favourite amongst those in the dressing room and was the type of character that you could see many of our squad would bounce off of in a positive way.
And, by looking at the reactions by fans to the club’s Twitter post, it would seem he had a positive influence on the fans during his time at the London Stadium as well.
Many of them replied to the post by stating that they continued to ‘miss him’ despite thinking he was a ‘shocking’ footballer whilst others had mentioned that they felt he was better than Pedro Obiang. Here are just some of their reactions…

First season he was immense. Thought we had a serious player on our hands. Then, in the off season I think his mind, body & soul was hijacked by Gary Breen. Truly shocking after that. Nice bloke though.
