Husillos must reject chance to land 4-goal attacker who has been offered to West Ham – opinion

Mario Husillos saw whatever hopes he held of landing Edin Dzeko go up in smoke last week, when reports suggested the Bosnia-Herzegovina captain had turned us down in favour of staying in Italy, with his heart set of joining Inter Milan.

Now, though, TEAMtalk are claiming that our transfer guru may turn his attention to the man AS Roma were said to be targeting to succeed Dzeko, as they suggest Boca Juniors star Dario Benedetto has been offered to us.

With Marko Arnautovic, Javier Hernandez, and Lucas Perez all said to be in the shop window this summer, and Andy Carroll preparing to leave once his contract expires, we will need to reinforce Manuel Pellegrini’s attack.

We should not, however, be targeting Benedetto, even if he is available for less than £20million as TEAMtalk suggest – when Roma were linked with the Argentine, reports claimed he has a €21million (£18.1m) release clause.

Not only has he never played outside his native country or Mexico, but the 5 ft 8 forward has only managed to score four goals this season in all competitions, with two of his league strikes coming from 15 Primera Division encounters.

He has also found his importance to Gustavo Alfaro diminish this term on the back of a cruciate ligament rupture, which scuppered his 2018 and any hopes of going to the World Cup and adding to his five international caps.

Benedetto has since been plagued by further injury problems, with an Achilles tendon issue kicking off his season, before a hamstring blow halted his return to action at the Estadio Alberto J. Armando – since then, he has only completed a full ninety minutes four times.

The 28-year-old is currently enjoying life in the Copa Libertadores, though, with two goals in four games, but we would be better served looking elsewhere, than offering Benedetto his chance to move to England.
